After working with CPA firms over the past few years, we began to see some common issues from firm to firm. The best word to capture most of what we saw had to do with the idea of Retention. Most firm owners I know have a concern with regard to retention. Most of them also don’t know how to do better in this area. Here’s a hint: it’s not usually showering employees with more perks and benefits. Your employees want to believe in the firm management and in their manager. They want to have opportunity to grow their career and the mentorship to get really good at their craft. They want to be treated with respect and know that their voice has a place in the firm. None of these problems are solved over night so we work with firm owners to identify the gaps in these areas and more and help guide them down the path that among other things, improves retention of the people that take care of your hard-won clients.
